Former Nordstrom Employee Accused Of Major Scam At Mall Of America

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A former Nordstom employee is accused of racking up thousands of dollars of fraudulent charges.

Court documents say 29-year-old Kyle Geiken opened a Nordstrom retail credit card last July at the Nordstrom at Mall of America where he was a sales associate. He filled out the application using the name of 32-year-old Amber Toste, from Minneapolis. The credit limit on the card was $1,000 dollars.

Investigators say over the next two weeks, the card had 12 transactions, totaling $143,634.21. The items purchased were high end clothing items, shoes, and handbags.

Nordstrom store surveillance video allegedly shows Geiken ringing up Toste for all of the purchases. Investigators believe he would use an authorization code to override the card's credit limit, but that Nordstrom never gave approval.

Nordstrom human resources said Geiken left his job on August 2nd, 2014, the day the last purchase was made. He received $12,675.53 in commission for the purchases.

Investigators are currently looking into cell phone records and text messages to try to find past contact linking the ex-employee and customer.

Both Geiken and Toste were arrested but later released and so far charges have yet to filed in this case.
