Feds Keep Immigration Office Near Mall of America
BLOOMINGTON, Minn. (AP) — The federal government has reversed itself and decided against relocating the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Office in Bloomington.
The plan to move the immigration center from its present location near the Mall of America to the northwest corner of Bloomington had come under criticism because the planned new site 10 miles away has very little bus service.
Sen. Amy Klobuchar said Tuesday that the General Services Administration, the government's real estate arm, has now abandoned that plan under pressure from the state's congressional delegation.
Klobuchar says the GSA is still looking for a larger space for the immigration office, but it will stay put for now. Another government agency will fill the lease on the new space.
