Farmers Market No Longer An Option For United Soccer Team
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The Minnesota United may have lost out on a prime location to build a new soccer stadium.
Minnesota United has had interest from Minneapolis and St. Paul to build a nearly $150 million proposed stadium. The team secured exclusive right to purchase land near the Minneapolis Farmers Market last year.
Robert Salmon owns most of the land in question. He said the team missed its deadline to act Monday and he's no longer interested in making a deal.
With this latest development, St. Paul's chances of getting the stadium near the Midway Shopping Center improve significantly.
St. Paul has shown interest in providing tax breaks for the soccer team stadium.
Minneapolis Mayor Betsy Hodges commented on the latest developments: "This is a private deal between the team's ownership group and a private landowner, the City is not privy to their negotiations. We still believe that Minneapolis is the best location for a new stadium and will continue moving forward with our working group."
