Man Dead After 3-Hour Standoff With Fargo Police
FARGO, N.D. (AP) -- A Fargo man is dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound after a three-hour standoff with police.
Officers surrounded the Southeast Human Service Center Thursday evening after a man with a gun walked into the facility. People were evacuated from the building and a nearby bingo parlor was placed on lockdown.
At about 9 p.m., a bullet from a gunshot fired from inside the building traveled out a second-story window and above officers' heads. No one was hurt.
Authorities who entered the building found the 49-year-old man dead. His name wasn't immediately released. A state Human Services official tells KFGO radio the man didn't work at the center.
Authorities say the man died from a single gunshot wound. Deputy Police Chief Ross Renner says no police officers fired a weapon.
