Extra Patrols To Look For Impaired Drivers Over Halloween
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – If you're planning on going out and drinking for Halloween, authorities say you better plan to have a sober ride home.
The Minnesota Department of Public Safety said Thursday that extra patrols will be out for Halloween and the weekend looking for impaired drivers. Halloween has been an especially dangerous time on Minnesota's roads since 2009. Authorities said from 2009-2013, there have been 14 fatality crashes and 29 serious injury crashes that were alcohol-related.
Half of the traffic crashes that were fatal were alcohol-related, and 38 percent of the serious injury crashes involved alcohol. About 60 percent of the victims in fatal crashes involving alcohol were men.
Authorities are urging that if you're going to get dressed up, go to a Halloween party and plan on drinking, have a sober ride at the end of the night.
