Exchange Student Died In Sauk Rapids Plane Crash

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A German foreign exchange student was one of the two victims when a plane crashed into a house last week.

The experimental plane went down Friday night in Sauk Rapids.

Sixty-year-old pilot Scott Olson had taken 16-year-old Alexander Voigt up in the plane to get some aerial photos.

St. Cloud Mayor Dave Kleis said his family had been hosting Voigt, who was set to return to Germany next week.

One person inside the home the plane hit was able to escape through a second-floor window.

An Allegiant Airlines plane was flying nearby when Olson's plane crashed.

The National Transportation Safety Board is looking into whether that aircraft had anything to do with the crash.
