Everything Old Is New Again At Valleyfair

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- You don't have to have nerves of steel to have a good time. This year, the amusement park is offering up some more family-friend rides as well.

Edward Moody checked out the all-new area geared towards families. Did we say "all-new"? Well, in this case at least, everything old is new again.

The Shakopee, Minn. amusement park is adding a new ride this year called Northern Lights. The ride is aimed at families, so it's not among the park's faster, wilder rides. Instead, it reaches a top speed of 43 miles per hour.

The ride is part of a new area located by the Steel Venom ride called Route 76, which goes back to ValleyFair's beginnings. It has three classic rides that made their debut in 1976 when the park opened -- Antique Autos, Tilt-a-Whirl, and the Scrambler.

As the park says, it's a good way for parents to share childhood memories with a new generation.

One thing that is certainly a newer, trendier draw for the park this year is the addition of the Taste of Valleyfair food trucks. They have everything from ice cream, snacks, and gourmet hot dogs.

There are standbys like the Chicago Dog and the Coney Island, but there are also some highly regional offerings as well, such as the Sea Dog -- which boasts fried cod fish -- and the cheese-stuffed Juicy Lucy Dog.

Valleyfair opened for the season on Friday.
