ELK RIVER, Minn. — Several people were hurt in a five-vehicle crash on Thursday in a Highway 169 work zone in Elk River.

The Minnesota State Patrol says the crash happened at about 8:40 a.m. on the highway near State Street.

Multiple people were injured and have been hospitalized, the state patrol says, though information on the number of victims and the extent of their injuries hasn't been released as of 12:30 p.m.

The highway's southbound lane is closed at 193rd Avenue Northwest. Officials are asking motorists to seek alternate routes.

Only one lane is operational in each direction on that stretch of highway as crews work on bridge construction.
