Edina Art Fair Celebrates 49th Year
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Thousands will flock to Minnesota's second-largest art fair this weekend as the Edina Art Fair celebrates its 49th year.
The fair features artwork from 300 artists from all over the country. At 50th and France, the annual Edina Art Fair marks the start to summer. The three-day festivity draws around 165,000 people to the city every year.
Kristi Abbott was selected to be this year's featured artist. An Australian native, she quit her corporate job in Melbourne three years ago and moved to the Twin Cities to pursue her lifelong love of art.
"I create the image in collage, based on some of the papers that I think really capture the character of that image," she said.
Abbott specializes in collage art, but there's something for every art lover at the fair -- from tutti, to sculpture, to photography and even lawn art.
There are new non-art features this year too, including a craft beer garden and a food truck for frozen yogurt lovers. There is also a kids area.
The event is free. A word of caution to commuters: northbound Highway 100 will be closed this weekend, but the art fair is offering free shuttles to help people get around.
