Suspected Bank Robber In Custody After 7-Hour Standoff In Duluth

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -  A seven-hour standoff in Duluth with an alleged armed bank robber ended Friday night with no one seriously hurt and the 30-year-old man in custody.

The Duluth Police Department says the standoff started after officers responded to a suspected bank robbery, car theft and chase in Duluth and surrounding cities. Responding officers found the man around 1:30 p.m. barricaded in an apartment building on Central Avenue. While inside the apartment, the man fired multiple shots. Police told people to stay away from the area.

No officers returned fire. They attempted to negotiate with the man, but after multiple attempts for a peaceful surrender, police say they resorted to "non-lethal tactics," although they did not detail which.

The man surrendered around 8:30 p.m. and was taken into custody. Before being booked into the St. Louis County Jail, he was treated for minor injuries.

No officers or civilians were hurt during the standoff. The incident remains under investigation.
