Police: Driver Caught Going 171 MPH Near Duluth
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Hermantown police say a driver of a sport car was stopped after being clocked on radar at an extremely high speed: 171 miles per hour.
According to police, while working a "Toward Zero Death" enforcement shift on the evening of April 8, Deputy Chief Shawn Padden stopped the driver for excessive speed on the Expressway just northeast of Duluth. The vehicle was initially clocked at 171 mph and again at 148 mph.
After stopping the car, Padden issued the driver a citation for careless driving.
According to the Duluth News Tribune, the driver is a 36-year-old Lakeside man who was driving a 2016 Chevrolet Camaro 1SS.
"Cases like these are rare but the danger these people put other motorists in is extreme," police said in a Facebook post.
