DPS: 2014 Traffic Deaths Surpass 100

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The number of traffic-related deaths this year in Minnesota surpassed 100 this weekend, according to the Minnesota Department of Public Safety.

A single-car crash Saturday in Alexandria took the lives of driver Howard Ogaard and passenger Beverly Palmer, who became the 99th and 100th traffic-related deaths of 2014.

On Sunday, Leon P. Fiecke became the 101st victim when he was thrown from his SUV after it rolled near Howard Lake,

The 102nd death of the year occurred Tuesday morning in a head-on crash near Hutchinson.

The DPS says 31 of the 102 motor-vehicle occupant deaths in 2014 involved people who were not wearing seatbelts.
