Woman Believed To Be Kidnapped By Ex-Boyfriend Returns Home
MINNETONKA, Minn. (WCCO) -- The family of a missing Minnesota woman who was abducted say she is home safe Saturday night.
Police say Nicole Smith was taken by her 37-year-old ex-boyfriend Jahon Douglas near Minneapolis Mart in Minnetonka on Thursday.
He allegedly threatened Smith with a gun and forced her into his car.
Smith's mother Karen Weborg said the moment she saw her daughter was the best feeling in her life.
And that she can't wait to spend Christmas together as a family.
"I'm so grateful that she is safe," Weborg said.
Weborg was at home Saturday, wishing this Christmas her daughter Nicole Smith would be found alive and safe.
Then -- without warning -- Smith walked through the front door, alone.
"It was the happiest moment of my life to see her," Weborg said.
Smith told her mother she had gotten away from her ex-boyfriend but wasn't able to call for help because she didn't have her cellphone.
She drove home in Douglas' Pontiac that police had been looking for.
"I know he had a gun at her head a few times and so she couldn't get away and he followed her with a gun so, but he eventually did let her go and he did say that he was going to kill both of them," Weborg said.
Minnetonka Police confirmed Douglas is still missing.
Weborg said she hopes he is found and gets the help he needs.
"To do what he did obviously he is dealing with a lot of pain himself," she said.
Weborg said the last two days took a lot of prayer -- prayer that was answered.
As Christmas will have a very special meaning for this family this year.
"It's like the best present ever. There couldn't be a better present," Weborg said.
Minnetonka Police say they consider Douglas to be armed and dangerous.
If you see him you should not approach him -- instead call 911.
