Dog With Unique Deformity Steals Hearts, Looking For Home
PRINCETON, Minn. (WCCO) -- Azur Davis, founder of central Minnesota's "Ruff Start Rescue," has helped save more than 1.700 animals.
But Davis says there's just something about Cupid, a 3-month-old hound dog with deformed front legs.
"He walks with the front paws completely bent in," Davis said. "We know that there's a hard case that's going to need a lot of vet care."
The overtly affectionate puppy was first found in a central Minnesota ditch.
"Someone went to the local impound where he was, and they got a video of him and they sent it to us and that was that," she said.
Their rescue happened on Valentine's Day, which is only part of the reason why they gave him the name "Cupid." When he lies down, his front paws make an unmistakable heart shape.
Davis says they hope to raise $6,000 to pay for testing, surgery and therapy for Cupid.
"It could be some type of birth defect where he was born this way, but he also has a crooked jaw," she said. "It could also be trauma related."
Cupid is now at a foster home, where Davis says he's living up to his name.
"So far everyone he's met, he loves and everyone loves him," she said.
"Ruff Start Rescue" is hoping to raise money for Cupid's care.
They're also accepting applications for his adoption. They hope that he'll have surgery before going to a permanent home.
