DNR: Zebra Mussels Found In Christmas Lake
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources has confirmed the presence of an invasive aquatic species in another metro lake.
Staff from the Minnehaha Creek Watershed District discovered eight zebra mussels in Christmas Lake, which is just south of Lake Minnetonka in Shorewood.
The mussels were found on a zebra mussel sampler, underwater rocks and along the shoreline of the lake's public access launch site.
The zebra mussel sampler is an early detection tool that's suspended into the lake below the public access dock.
The MCWD and the DNR believe they may have discovered the invasive species early enough to prevent a lake-wide infestation.
The DNR reminds boaters that personal responsibility is essential to prevent the spread of zebra mussels.
