DNR: No-Wake Restriction In Effect On St. Croix River

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – If you're going to be boating on the St. Croix River any time soon, you'll want to pay special attention to no-wake restrictions.

The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources said Tuesday a no-wake boating restriction is in effect on the river between Taylors Falls and Prescott due to high water levels from recent rainfall in the area. The DNR said boaters must operate at a slow no-wake speed when the river reaches at least 683 above sea level in Stillwater. It's the third time this spring the no-wake restrictions have been put into place.

Officials said the restriction is in effect to prevent shoreline erosion and property damage in areas that aren't normally subject to wave action when the water is at lower levels. DNR officials said no-wake signs are posted at public access points where the restriction is in effect.

The no-wake restriction will remain in effect until the St. Croix River recedes to below 683 feet.
