DNR Debuts 'Recreation Compass' Mobile Map
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources wants to make it easier for people to find places to go hiking or hunting.
So on Friday, the DNR rolled out a mobile map called the "Recreation Compass," and it's available for download on both phones and tablets.
It features more than 5 and-a-half million acres of public lands: from state forests and waterways to wildlife management areas and state parks.
"It links to a bunch of our other popular online destinations," said Mike Tronrud, a DNR geographic information specialist. "You can click on features, like…'Lake' and it will open up our lake finder application. You can search around 3,000 public water access sites."
Because it's a mobile website, and not an app, it can be used on any device and updated more easily.
The DNR wants people to start using it so they can get feedback and add to it.
