DNA Exonerates Man In Rape Case, Lands Other Sex Offender In Jail

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- DNA evidence has exonerated a man accused of raping a teenager twice in Minneapolis.

Charles Stevenson, of Minnetonka, has been in jail since November. At the time, the 15-year-old victim identified him as her attacker after police showed her photos of known sex offenders.

The girl said the man forced her into two different alleys at gunpoint in north Minneapolis and assaulted her.

Yet, an investigation showed that DNA from the attacker matched a different convicted sex offender in the system.

Officers arrested Harold Davis, of Minneapolis, and he is now facing multiple charges from the attack.

Still, Stevenson remains in jail, because he didn't register as a predatory offender from a previous sex crime.
