Fed. Prison Bureau: Denny Hecker Remains In Prison
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- WCCO has confirmed that former Twin Cities car dealership mogul Denny Hecker remains in a Pekin, Illinois federal prison.
Barbara May, Hecker's former bankruptcy attorney, told WCCO Tuesday that Hecker had been recently released to a Minneapolis halfway house after serving seven years for bankruptcy and wire fraud.
But a source told WCCO Tuesday night that was not the case, and there was a last-minute delay for Hecker's release.
In an email to WCCO Wednesday, the Federal Bureau of Prisons confirmed that Hecker is still an inmate at Federal Correctional Institution, Pekin.
Hecker went from living a luxurious lifestyle to a life behind bars. He pleaded guilty in 2010 to conspiracy for sending forged documents to receive tens of millions of dollars in financing. He also pleaded guilty to fraud for diverting money to conceal it from bankruptcy court.
Hecker's cars, homes and property were seized and sold off after the conviction.
He's scheduled to be released in 2018, but nonviolent offenders are often released early as part of the Second Chance Act.
