Delta Cancels 530 More Flights Tuesday Morning To 'Reset' Airline

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- If you're planning to fly Delta today, you will still want to check the status of your flight. Delta says it's still operating in recovery mode after Monday's major computer outage.

The airline canceled around 1,000 flights Monday after a power glitch at its Atlanta operations center.

As of Tuesday afternoon, the airline said it had canceled 530 flights. Delta said it was canceling flights while it "works to reset the operation and get crews, aircraft and other operational elements in place to take care of customers."

Delta is still investigating why some critical systems and network equipment didn't switch over to a backup system.

"We were able to bring our systems back on line and resume flights within a few hours (Monday) but we are still operating in recovery mode," Dave Holtz, Senior Vice President of the Operations and Customer Center, said. "We are sorry for what many of our customers have experienced over the past 24 hours, including those who remain at airports and continue waiting for their flights. We are doing everything we can to return our operation to normal reliability, but we do expect additional delays and cancellations."

The outage affected about 100 flights at MSP, and new delays and cancellations continue to show up for Tuesday's departures and arrivals.

A travel waiver issued Monday has been extended, allowing Delta passengers to change and rebook flights without paying change fees. The airline is also offering compensation to customers significantly affected.
