Delta Air Lines Bans Hoverboards

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Delta Air Lines is not too crazy about this season's hottest holiday gift.

The Georgia-based carrier announced Thursday they are banning hoverboards in all carry-on and checked bags due to safety concerns.

Delta says the lithium-ion batteries used to power the self-balancing personal transporters can overheat out of nowhere and cause fires.

The Federal Aviation Administration does not allow aircrafts to carry devices with batteries that have more than 160 watt hours.

WCCO reported earlier this month about the fire risk posed by hoverboards.
