Dayton Orders Flags To Half-Staff For Fallen Firefighters

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — Gov. Mark Dayton is ordering state and federal flags to be lowered to half-staff in Minnesota on Sunday, in honor of firefighters who have been killed or disabled in the line of duty.

All flags at federal and state buildings will be lowered from sunrise until sunset as part of Minnesota Fallen Firefighters Memorial Day.

The St. Paul Pioneer Press reports that more than 1,000 people are expected to visit the Fallen Firefighters Memorial site at the state Capitol on Sunday. Attendees will include the descendants of nine firefighters who died in Minnesota.

The memorial contains the names of 216 firefighters.
