Davis Love III Is Looking Forward To Ryder Cup

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Minnesota will host the Ryder Cup at Chaska's Hazeltine National Golf Club in September of 2016.

Former PGA Championship winner Davis Love III will captain the United States team.

He told WCCO's Dave Lee about some changes leading up to the event.

He says golf will return to the Olympics in 2016, so that's going to push the PGA championship about a month early.

He says they can't end the points that early in the year.

"So we're going to end the points more toward Fed Ex season and push back the captains' selections closer to the Ryder Cup," Love said.

He says in the past they pick their captains and then see other players they'd like on the team, but they can't invite them at that time.

Love says there are real differences and advantages of having an event like the Ryder Cup in Minnesota.

"It's our biggest event in golf," Love said

He says the start of what he calls the "Super Bowl of the sport" is pretty amazing.

"There's nothing like it," Love said

When players get up to the tee, everyone is singing songs and chants and going crazy.

Minnesota native Tom Lehman -- who was a member of three Ryder Cup teams and was captain in 2006 -- was recently introduced as a vice-captain
