Curiocity: 2014-2015 Broadway Season Announced

A selection of Tony Award-winning shows, Minnesota premieres and classic favorites make up this year's Broadway line-up at the Hennepin Theatre Trust.

Among the standouts, 2013 Tony Award-winners Pippin, Kinky Boots and Motown The Musical will make their debuts on a Minneapolis stage.

Pippin, the musical boasting Bob Fosse-style choreography and incredible topsy-turvy acrobatics, will hit the Orpheum stage Feb. 17-22, 2015. Pippin tells the story of a young prince on a death-defying journey to find meaning in his existence.

Kinky Boots, winner of six Tony's, including Best Musical, will kick its way onto the Orpheum stage from July 28 to Aug. 2, 2015. With music from Grammy winner Cyndi Lauper, Kinky Boots tells the story of Charlie Price, a man who has reluctantly inherited his father's shoe factory, which is on the verge of bankruptcy. In an effort to save the business, he finds inspiration from Lola -- a fabulous entertainer in need of a sturdy (and large) pair of stilettos.

And Motown The Musical, the true story of Motown founder Berry Gordy's journey to legendary music mogul (launching the careers of Diana Ross, Michael Jackson, Smokey Robinson and more) will stop through town Dec. 16-28.

Other highlights include a return of The Book Of Mormon, after its 2013 record-breaking Minneapolis run. The Tony Award-winning musical, from the twisted minds of South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone, will kick off the 2014-2015 season in August with a three-week stay. Check it out at the Orpheum Theatre from Aug. 20 to Sept. 7.

The beloved film-turned-musical Dirty Dancing -- The Classic Story On Stage heads to the Orpheum from Oct. 7-19, including hit songs "Hungry Eyes" and of course, "(I've Had) The Time of My Life."

From Nov. 25-30, just in time for the holiday season, Irving Berlin's White Christmas will help audiences get excited about a wintery wonderland.

The brand new show, I Love Lucy Live on Stage brings the TV classic to life at the State Theatre from Jan. 20-25, 2015. Following Lucy, Oliver!, part of the Broadway Re-Imagined series from Hennepin Theatre Trust and Theater Latte Da, debuts at the Pantages Theatre, Feb. 4 to March 1, 2015.

The always-popular Disney's Beauty and the Beast returns to the Orpheum March 10-15, 2015, followed by another fan favorite, Annie -- which stops through town March 31 to April 5, 2015.

And rounding out the new Broadway season, Tony and Grammy Award-winning musical Jersey Boys makes its return to the Orpheum from April 28 to May 3, 2015.
