Crews Work To Keep St. Croix River Flowing To Help With Bridge Construction

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Area lakes and rivers are beginning to freeze over as cold air finally moves in. But workers on the St. Croix River aren't too happy about that.

Construction crews are working to keep the water moving so they can keep working on the new St. Croix Crossing.

The warm water generated from the power plant in Bayport and an ice breaker is helping with that.

However, that means the ice along the three mile stretch between Stillwater and Bayport may be too thin for people wanting to ice fish or snowmobile.

Work on the bridge was scheduled to be finished next fall. But, months ago, MnDOT said it's taking longer and work is expected now to continue into 2017.
