Smoke in MSP Airport air traffic control tower leads to brief ground stop
MINNEAPOLIS -- A failed HVAC system motor caused smoke to fill an air traffic control tower Tuesday morning at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport, leading to a temporary ground stop.
The Metropolitan Airports Commission (MAC) says the smoke was reported just before 6 a.m., leading to the tower's evacuation and a halt to air traffic operations.
The ground stop ended at about 6:15 a.m., but there was "some residual impact to flight operations" Tuesday morning, according to MAC officials.
