Fire Damages Vacant Home In Northeast Minneapolis

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Authorities say a vacant home in northeast Minneapolis suffered extensive damage due to a fire Wednesday morning.

The Minneapolis Fire Department was called just after 5 a.m. to a residence on the 2500 block of 3rd Street North. When crews arrived, heavy fire was showing from the 2-and-a-half story residence and firefighters had to battle the blaze from the exterior.

Fire officials said a fire in the basement of the residence burned the first floor of the building out and spread to the second floor of the structure. After knocking down the fire from the outside, crews were able to get back into the building and battle the fire on the second floor.

Fire crews had the blaze out just after 7 a.m. and didn't find anyone inside the residence. No injuries have been reported as a result of the fire. The cause is under investigation.
