Fatal Crash Between Semi, Passenger Car Closes Eastbound Hwy 36 In Lake Elmo

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The Minnesota State Patrol says a fatal crash involving a semi and passenger car has prompted the closure of eastbound Highway 36 to the east of the Twin Cities Friday morning.

According to the state patrol, the incident occurred around 6:30 a.m. on Highway 36 west of Keats Avenue in Lake Elmo, Minnesota. There, a semi with a side dump trailer was stopped northbound in the cross over on Highway 36.

A Honda Civic traveling eastbound on Highway 36 struck the back of the trailer, which was into the eastbound lanes of traffic, according to the state patrol.

"Eastbound Highway 36 is closed until further notice," the state patrol said.

The state patrol updated that there were three vehicles involved, after initially reporting two vehicles. Information on the third vehicle hasn't been released.
