Police Search Park After Coyote (Or Dog) Bites Jogger In The Face

APPLE VALLEY, Minn. (WCCO) -- A possible coyote attack has families in an Apple Valley neighborhood keeping an extra eye out.

Police say a 57-year-old woman was jogging with her husband at about 7 a.m. Friday. They were crossing a bridge in Cedar Isle Park when the animal jumped up and bit her face.

Investigators say its behavior was consistent with a coyote. People say they've seen a few roaming the neighborhood in the past, but never expected an incident like this one.

"Oh we're shocked. I mean we have a lot of young children in the neighborhood. A lot of people out walking their dogs so it could be almost anybody that goes out early before they go to work," neighbor Claire Ramsey said.

Investigators say the bite seemed like a defensive reaction of an animal trying to escape. The suspected coyote hasn't been found. The victim was treated at the hospital.

The Department of Natural Resources and the Animal Humane Society also searched the area, but were unable to find the suspect animal.
