Cottage Grove Home Damaged In Fire

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A Cottage Grove home was damaged after a fire broke out Monday night.

According to the Cottage Grove Fire Department, crews responded to a call of a fully involved house fire at 8:35 p.m. in the 8400 block of Hinton Avenue S.

Upon arrival, crews found the fire had spread to the garage which was connected to the home.

Crews said it appeared as though the fire was spreading to a residence south of the home as well.

The Cottage Grove Police Department and fire crews searched the home and made sure no one was inside.

The house was cleared and crews began to fight the fire from outside.

According to the fire department, the garage was a total loss and there was significant damage to the exterior and interior main floor of the home.

The residence south of the home also sustained some minor exposure damage.

The fire department said a four-foot python was found in the basement and returned to the home owner. A cat was unaccounted for and a dog was found to be deceased.

Due to the quickness of the fire and other information, the State Fire Marshal will be investigating the cause.
