Coronavirus Updates: The Latest COVID-19 Headlines From March 28, 2020
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Today is Saturday, March 28, and Gov. Tim Walz's stay-at-home order is now in effect. He has directed Minnesotans to stay at home for two weeks, only leaving for essential activities, such as getting groceries and exercise. Trips to buy alcoholic beverages are also permitted under the executive order.
Here are the latest updates on the COVID-19 pandemic:
- 7:30 p.m.: President Trump now says a a "quarantine will not be necessary" for the New York area. Instead, he has asked for a travel advisory to be put in place.
- 6:34 p.m.: North Dakota officials outline the worst-case scenario for the outbreak.
- 6 p.m.: President Trump says he is considering an "enforceable" quarantine of all residents who leave the New York area, where more than 700 people have died from COVID-19.
- 5:37 p.m.: Instacart workers plan to conduct a nationwide strike Monday over what they consider a lack of protection amid the pandemic.
- 5:03 p.m.: Minnesotans say streets and stores were mostly empty on the first day of the governor's stay-at-home order.
- 3:23 p.m.: There are now more than 112,000 confirmed COVID-19 cases in the United States and over 640,000 worldwide, researchers say.
- 2:04 p.m.: There are nearly 1,000 (989) confirmed cases of coronavirus in Wisconsin, as of Saturday. Milwaukee County has more positive cases than Minnesota.
