Cops: Girls Admit To Defacing Graves With Markers, Spray Paint

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Police in southern Minnesota say that earlier this week two preteen girls defaced numerous graves with spray paint and markers.

The vandalism happened at Maple Lawn Cemetery in Faribault, and the local police department says it was reported on Monday.

Among the markings was a phone number, which belonged to a boy. A detective contacted with him, police say, and learned about two girls whom the boy didn't get along with.

The boy told the detective that he believed the girls defaced that graves.

Investigators then contacted the girls' parents, who brought them in for questioning. Both girls – ages 10 and 11 – then admitted to officers they spray painted grave markers.

What punishment the girls might face was not mentioned in a police press release.

The case is being referred to the Rice County Attorney's Office for review, police say.
