Construction Resumes On U.S. Bank Stadium
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Construction on the roof of the new Vikings stadium will resume Friday.
Last month, a Jeramie Gruber, an employee of the construction company Berwald Roofing and Sheet Metal Company, fell 50 feet while performing roofing work.
Gruber died as a result of the fall.
On Thursday evening, Berwald Roofing released a statement prior to their return to work.
The company said that it was with heavy hearts that they return to work, but that they have ensured conditions are safe for their other employees.
"After a review of the roofing conditions, Berwald Roofing, in cooperation with Mortenson Construction and the Minnesota Sports Facilities Authority, has been cleared to continue installing the stadium's roofing system," the company said in a recent statement.
The statement went on to say they will honor Gruber by wearing a decal dedicated to him.
"The Minnesota Vikings recently displayed a sticker of Jeramie Gruber's initials to the back of their helmets. In a similar gesture, Berwald Roofing employees will don hard hats that feature a decal in memory of their colleague and friend."
The statement finished by saying they are continuing to work with investigators to determine what caused the event.
