Coming Snowstorm Shouldn't Disrupt Iowa Caucuses
DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Heavy snow and strong winds are expected to move into Iowa, but likely not until after voters gather for the state's leadoff presidential caucuses. However, possible blizzard conditions could complicate candidates' plans to leave the next day.
National Weather Service meteorologist Kelsey Angle says snow will move into southwest Iowa late Monday and spread through much of the state overnight. Up to a foot of snow is forecast, along with wind gusts reaching 40 mph.
Temperatures should remain above freezing when hundreds of thousands of people gather Monday night for the caucuses, meaning travel difficulties are unlikely.
But conditions could be far worse early Tuesday, when candidates and thousands of other people who traveled to Iowa for the caucuses will be trying to travel to other early-voting states.
