Cobb Earns Big Ten Honors After Gophers Win

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – The Big Ten Conference announced its weekly football awards on Monday, and University of Minnesota senior David Cobb made the list after the Gophers beat Middle Tennessee State 35-24.

Cobb was selected a Co-Offensive Player of the Week after rushing for 220 yards and two touchdowns to lead Minnesota to a 2-0 start. Cobb's 220 rushing yards set a TCF Bank Stadium record, and it's the first 200-yard rushing performance for the Gophers since Nov. 12, 2005.

Cobb scored on runs of 7 and 48 yards. He averaged 7.6 yards per carry. It's the first time Cobb has been selected with the honor and first since Philip Nelson got it on Nov. 4, 2013.

Cobb shared the award with Illinois quarterback Wes Lunt, who threw for 456 yards and three touchdowns as the Ilini beat Western Kentucky.

Minnesota travels to TCU on Saturday.
