Charges: St. Cloud Man Stomped On Roommate's Head
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A 28-year-old St. Cloud man faces a second-degree attempted murder charge after an alleged brutal attack on his roommate.
The Stearns County Attorney's office says Soloman Edward Roundtree was involved in a fight Tuesday morning at a residence on the 300 block of 37th Avenue North.
The complaint says police were dispatched on a report of a fight that left a man bleeding and unconscious.
Witnesses say Roundtree was yelling in his room, and the victim opened his door to ask him why he was making noise. Witnesses then heard a "big boom," and then saw the victim lying on the floor.
Roundtree then allegedly began stomping with full force on the victim's head about seven or eight times, while screaming obscenities and telling the victim he was going to kill him, despite protests from witnesses.
The victim is at the St. Cloud Hospital, where he is still unconscious and on a respirator in the intensive care unit. Doctors say he suffered bleeding on the brain.
There was already a pending fifth-degree assault charge against Roundtree for a similar stomping attack on the victim in November of 2014. There was also a no-contact order issued against Roundtree on behalf of the victim.
Roundtree is being held in Stearns County Jail, and his bail has been set at $1.5 million without conditions.
He could face up to 20 years in prison if convicted.
