Charges: Man Pulls Gun After Losing Cribbage Game
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A 60-year-old Rosemount man is accused of pulling a gun on another man after losing in a game of cribbage, according to charges filed Wednesday in Dakota County Court.
Peter Eldon Kvam was charged with second-degree assault and one count of terroristic threats in connection with the incident, which happened last Friday at a Rosemount apartment.
According to the charges, Rosemount Police were called to an apartment complex at about 9 p.m. on March 21 on a report of a dispute involving a firearm. When authorities arrived, a man told police he had been playing cribbage with his neighbor, Kvam, for money. Kvam became very upset when he lost the game, pulled a gun out of his sock and pointed it at the victim.
The victim fled the apartment, and when he got back Kvam was gone. Police went to Kvam's apartment, found him intoxicated and took him into custody. He admitted to police that he was playing cribbage with his neighbor and became upset when he lost the game. He said he threatened to get a gun, but denied bringing it to the apartment.
He told police he had a small black handgun that he keeps in his nightstand drawer. Police located a Smith and Wesson .380 gun on top of his nightstand.
The complaint states a third person in the apartment during the cribbage game told police Kvam was very upset about losing the game, pulled a gun from near his ankle area and pointed it in the victim's direction.
If convicted, Kvam faces up to 12 years in prison and/or $24,000 in fines.
