Cemetery Cancels Controversial Car Show

ROSEVILLE, Minn. (AP) -- A Roseville cemetery has canceled plans for a hot rod car show following public criticism that the burial grounds aren't the proper place for such an event.

The Roselawn Cemetery's board of directors says it decided not to hold this weekend's "Rods and Stones" show because of negative feedback. A statement from the board says the car show was an effort to "make cemeteries less intimidating and forbidding."

The St. Paul Pioneer Press reports board members say they never intended anything disrespectful or disruptive.

It plans to make a contribution to the Street Rod Association's college fund to make up for canceling the show. It also plans to host an open house to discuss ideas for appropriate ways to connect with the community.
