5 teens injured after shooting in Burnsville's Red Oak Park

Neighbors describe horrifying moments of gun fire in Burnsville

BURNSVILLE, Minn. — Five teens were injured after a shooting at Burnsville's Red Oak Park on Friday evening.

In a statement released Saturday morning, police said officers arrived at the park, located off Highway 77, around 8:15 p.m. They found multiple people injured, three of whom were taken to the hospital with gunshot wounds.

Erick Johnson says he was already on the way to get his 11- and 9-year-old kids when he heard the gunshots. Another neighbor says her daughter was there and described the shooting.

"Four people, wearing all black, came up from the hill and just started opening fire," said the neighbor, who didn't want to be identified. "When my husband and I heard the gunshots, we ran outside, and we could see people running from the park. We could hear people screaming. We could see cars peeling out and taking off. And it was just chaos."

One person who was injured took themselves to a local hospital and another was treated at the scene and released.

Police say details about the extent of victims' injuries are not available. However they said the victims were all teenagers: one 16-year-old, one 17-year-old, two 18-year-olds, and one 19-year-old.

"The issue keeps growing. And it's growing from the city. And it's now coming out here," said Scott who lives near the park. "Things were really quiet around here 12 years ago. And in the last six months, it's really changed. My oldest wants to move and I don't think they'll be going to the park in quite some time."
