Authorities Rescue 5 Children From Burning Townhome; Mother Hospitalized

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A woman was hospitalized after she and five children were pulled from a burning townhome in central Minnesota Friday morning.

Authorities in Alexandria responded to a fire on the 400 block of Unumb Drive just before 3:30 a.m., according to police.

After officers safely rescued five children from the townhome, the children said their mother was still inside. The fire department arrived, began extinguishing the fire and found the woman unresponsive with visible burns.

The woman was transported to the Douglas County Hospital before being airlifted to Hennepin County Medical Center. Her condition is unknown at this time, police said.

The children are ages 5, 8, 11, 16 and 17.

The fire began in the kitchen, according to police, but the cause is unknown at this time. Seventy-five percent of the townhome was damaged and adjacent townhomes were evacuated.
