Man fatally shot by relative at family gathering in Brooklyn Park, police say

BROOKLYN PARK, Minn. — A man was shot and killed by a relative at a family gathering in Brooklyn Park over the weekend, police say. 

Officers with the Brooklyn Park Police Department responded to a shooting at a residence on the 8400 block of Adair Avenue North around 6:30 p.m. Saturday.

Police say officers found a victim with a serious gunshot wound upon their arrival and immediately rendered aid. The victim was transported to the hospital, where he later died, according to a medical examiner's report. The report identified the victim as 34-year-old Nichanon Kittikroekphon of Coon Rapids.

When police arrived, they saw that several people had pinned down a 32-year-old man. The man, who is believed to be the shooter, was taken into custody. During the arrest, police say officers recovered a firearm.

Police say that at some point during the family gathering, the suspect and the victim had a verbal exchange. The suspect then pulled out a handgun and fired at the victim several times at close range.

The Hennepin County Sheriff's Office assisted the Brooklyn Park Police Department during the incident.

The 32-year-old man is in custody awaiting formal charges.
