Brodzinski Nets Hat Trick, Gophers Sweep Wisconsin
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Michael Brodzinski netted a hat trick Saturday night as the University of Minnesota hockey team completed a weekend sweep of Wisconsin with a 9-2 victory.
The Gophers got the weekend started with a 4-0 win over the Badgers Friday night.
In Saturday's win, Hudson Fasching scored off the opening faceoff just 12 seconds in to give the Gophers a 1--0 lead. All three of Brodzinski's goals came in the third period, including the goal for the hat trick with 55 seconds left in regulation.
The nine goals scored by the Gophers are tied for the third most they've scored in a game aginst the Badgers. It's also the first time Minnesota has swept Wisconsin in Madison since 2006.
Justin Kloos, Ryan Norman, Taylor Cammaratta and Connor Reilly also scored for the Gophers. Nine players had multiple points in the win.
The Gophers (13-10, 8-2) are back in action this weekend, hosting the Northstar College Cup at Xcel Energy Center. The tournament includes Bemidji State, St. Cloud State and Minnesota State University, Mankato, along with the Gophers.
