Boy Scouts Hit Water Before Locks And Dams Close
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Hundreds of canoes and kayaks were out Sunday to mark the end of an era.
The Boy Scouts of America floated down the Mississippi River from Boom Island in Minneapolis down to Fort Snelling. It was one last chance to go through the locks and dams before they close forever.
The Upper Anthony Falls lock is closing to prevent the spread of Asian carp. President Obama signed it into legislation last year. An estimated 2,000 vessels used the lock in 2014.
The Army Corps of Engineers will close it on Wednesday.
