MINNEAPOLIS — Minneapolis police are investigating after an 18-year-old was fatally shot Sunday night in the Whittier neighborhood.

Upon arrival, police say officers were told the victim had been taken to a residence on the 2600 block of Third Avenue South.
Once at the residence, police found a man suffering from life-threatening gunshot wounds. Officers provided aid until an ambulance transported him to Hennepin Healthcare, where he later died. He was identified as Javon Jarule Stevenson.
Police originally said the victim was 17, but when releasing news of his death on Monday, they corrected his age to 18.
No arrests have been made, but police say preliminary information indicates a verbal altercation escalated to gunfire.
