Body Of Missing Man Found In Medicine Lake

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – The search for a man who fell out of a kayak over the weekend on Medicine Lake has ended.

The Hennepin County Sheriff's Office announced Monday afternoon that deputies found the body of 31-year-old Paul Myklebust, of St. Louis Park, using sonar equipment. The body was found at around 3 p.m., just 100 yards from the shoreline in water 10 feet deep.

Myklebust and another man had been kayaking on the lake in Plymouth at around 2 a.m. Saturday morning when the kayak flipped. The other man made it to shore. Myklebust didn't.

Prior to getting in the kayak, Myklebust was at a house party with friends and co-workers.

Shortly before 8 a.m. Saturday, a boater called 911 to report the submerged kayak on the lake's north side.

The Hennepin County Medical Examiner's report said Myklebust died of an accidental drowning.

Investigators said alcohol was likely a factor.

A vigil for Myklebust will be held near the lake Monday night.
