Blue Line Extension Project Estimated To Cost $1.4B

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A possible extension of the Metro Transit Light Rail's Blue Line has been estimated to cost $1.4 billion.

According to the Metropolitan Council the estimated cost is a result of added scope onto the expansion project.

When completed, the Blue Line extension will travel from Target Northern Campus in Brooklyn Park to the Mall of America in Bloomington.

The extension will then help the Light Rail service cities such as Golden Valley, Robbinsdale, Crystal and Brooklyn Park.

Based on the projected scope of the project, the Metropolitan Council project staff is recommending additional bridges and retaining walls. The project staff is also recommending an additional station at Plymouth Avenue and some reconstruction of Highway 55.

The next review of the project is expected to be on November 12 when the Corridor Management Committee will be asked to make a recommendation on the cost and scope.
