Black Lives Matter Plans Sunday Light Rail Shutdown For Vikes Home Opener

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Vikings fans heading to Sunday's home opener at TCF Bank Stadium may need to leave earlier than they would like.

The group Black Lives Matter St. Paul is planning a protest which they say will shut down the light rail.

Organizers say Metro Transit police violently arrested a 17-year-old black teenager with autism last month.

The initial incident report says officers asked Marcus Abrams for his ID. They say he refused to comply and began to strike and kick them.

Metro Transit's incident report says the officers' use of force does comply with department policies.

"They always want to hide behind, you know, 'We're doing an investigation and we can't talk about it.' It doesn't take any type of clearance to apologize for bad behavior," BLM St Paul's Rashad Turner said.

The protest will begin at 9:30 a.m. Sunday near the Lexington Parkway light rail station.

Abrams and his mother are expected to speak at the protest.

Kickoff for the Vikings game against the Detroit Lions is at noon.
