Bishop Paul Sirba Of Diocese Of Duluth Dies At 59
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO/AP) -- The Diocese of Duluth says Bishop Paul Sirba died suddenly of a heart attack at the age of 59.
The Diocese says Bishop Sirba suffered cardiac arrest at St. Rose Church in Proctor Sunday morning.
He was rushed to Essentia Health St. Mary's Medical Center in Duluth, where life-saving measures were attempted, but were unsuccessful.
Sirba has led the Catholic Diocese of Duluth for a decade. His vicar general, Rev. James Bissonnette, said in a statement "words do not adequately express our sorrow at this sudden loss of our Shepherd."
After Sirba was ordained in 1986, he served at the Church of St. Olaf in Minneapolis, the Church of St. John the Baptist in Savage, at St. John Vianney Seminary and the Church of the Maternity of the Blessed Virgin, both in St. Paul, and at the St. Paul Seminary.
