Bird Flu Outbreak Forces Minnesota Companies To Cut Jobs

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Minnesota's bird flu outbreak will keep more workers at home.

Rembrandt Enterprises is laying off nearly 40 full-time employees, for now. The virus hit its egg-laying plant in Renville earlier this month and forced them to put down more than 2 million chickens.

Earlier this month, Jennie-O Turkey Store said it's cutting shifts at its processing plant in Faribault, as well. That means more than 230 of its workers are temporarily laid off.

Both companies plan to restart their operations, they just don't know when.

Statewide, the outbreak has affected nearly 8 million birds.
