Bicyclist Killed By Mpls. LRT Had Been In Similar Accident Before

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The bicyclist who was struck and killed Friday morning by a light rail train in south Minneapolis has been identified, and he'd been hit by another train at the same station months before.

The Hennepin County Medical Examiner's Office says 29-year-old Jason Michael McCormick, of Minneapolis, died from blunt force trauma after he was hit by the Blue Line train at 46th Street and Hiawatha Avenue at about 7:30 a.m.

Witnesses say McCormick seemed to ignore the flashing lights that warn of a passing train.

According to a Facebook post by the victim, he was hit by another light rail train while biking in Minneapolis earlier this summer.

"I survived and broke nothing. Just a concussion, some scrapes and muscle soreness," McCormick said on Facebook, two days after the crash. "Stay alert people, look both ways before crossing train tracks and wear a helmet!"

A woman was also killed by a light rail train late Thursday morning in St. Paul.
